I want to start this = letter with Thanksgiving to SSGT. Grant Jackson for taking the initiative to start= Web site to allow reunions of men that served in our war together, Thanks Grant= .

Our C.O. Captain Crumley mailed me the other day and I was so glad to = hear from him it broke my heart. I didn’t get to say goodbye to him after = he was injured and I feared for past 35 years he didn’t make it home. Captain Crumley chose me to be his radioman, as= he called it, me just lowly E-3 country boy that knew no training but recon sc= out in Kentucky mountains. As you all know Capt. Was a soldiers, soldier I know how he looked after his men in all platoons and wanted us al= l to make it home. I will tell you for sure part of my job was to know and post = on Capt.’s Map where every man was at, at all times, day and night, and there was no tolerance for any mistakes and I dam better have complete repo= rt of situation every hour and if his men needed fire support or anything else= I had better have squadron on radio right now for him to talk to, if he was a= way from my apc or lz r= adio room.

I’= ve talked with David Gafney, Paul Joslin, Grant and others since finding the site, talking with all after not hearing from anybody in 35 years has been very helpful to me.

I’m sure a lot = of you are probably like me got a lot older and I pray you all have had decent lif= e, I know without wandering that each has a story of difficult times over the ye= ars, just like me. To be able to talk to someone I trust and not be afraid to say I cry either during talk or after talking to each one is good= . I will never forget each man we lost, I know each one’s names and face. I pray there all in a better place now.<= /i>

My story is thank you= God and men that care about their war friends. Yes We all were scared and yes we all did our job devoted to the end to each other, yes it was good to sleep = for just a little while, as your partners stood guard, yes we saw horrific scen= es of our friends, yes we hated those that did it, yes we wondered why we made= it and they didn’t, yes we cried inside very often, Yes Dear God we were young men that started life as men in the very worst way but we thank you G= od that we made it, please keep helping us to cope with war memories.
